Plainfield North Band to March in Chicago Thanksgiving Parade

The District 202 students will be part of the 79th annual McDonald's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The Plainfield North High School band will march on State Street during the 2012 McDonald's Thanksgiving Day Parade in Chicago.

PNHS Director of Bands Steven Pyter said the Marching Tigers submitted an application plus photos, videos and a list of accomplishments in their bid to be part of the parade last spring. The approximately 150 students learned they'd been accepted in August.

"The band has quickly earned a reputation for excellence in the past few years," Pyter said. "This year the band received top honors as Grand Champion of the Downers Grove South Music Bowl, earned second Place in Class 4A at the State of Illinois Invitational (ISU), and most notably made their third consecutive appearance as a State of Illinois Invitational finalist, earning eighth place in the state."

The school band was one of 23 high school marching bands chosen to participate in the annual event. In 2010, another District 202 school, Plainfield East, earned the honor.

The parade is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 24. You can catch it live on WGN.
