The Plainfield Park District is sponsoring a naming contest for the new off-leash dog park at Norman Greenway, 13214 S. Blakely.

The three-acre dog park opened in late 2013 north of 135th Street and west of Route 30 and reportedly cost around $12,000.

To enter the naming contest, residents must write a short essay (300 words or less) about their favorite dog and their owner/handler, and why that person is so special around animals. The name and age of the person must also be included.

Deadline to enter is March 31; limit one entry per person.

The park will be named after the grand prize winner's favorite pet, and the winner will get a commemorative plaque.

The runner up will receive a plaque and a free 2014 family pass to the Ottawa Street Pool.
