Plainfield South Grad to Compete Miss Illinois Pagent

by Erin Gallagher

Catherine Durkiewicz, 20, wants to be a doctor to help people. The way to do that, she says, is to compete in the Miss Illinois Pageant.

Durkiewicz, a Plainfield South High School graduate is currently attending Joliet Junior College for psychology and pre-med.

"Ever since I was a little, I wanted to help people," Durkiewicz said. "I've always wanted to be a doctor."

Durkiewicz said she applied and interviewed for the pagent and was accepted.

She is asking for donations because the costs are $1,000 for pagent tuition and hotel. The dress, hair, and accessories will be anoterh $1,500 she anticipates.

Durkiewicz is currently working part time at Provena St. Joseph as a certified nursing assistant.
