Three local business professionals, all members of Plainfield’s Bridge Builders Toastmasters club, received achievement awards and letters of commendation from Toastmasters International during the group’s Aug. 6 meeting.
Club President Kumar Saravanan presented Dick Poirier and Joe Husted with Competent Communicator awards, and Elaine Sommer was named a “Triple Crown” winner, receiving her Competent Communicator, Competent Leader and Advanced Leader Bronze awards.
“Toastmasters International makes it fun and easy to improve your communication and leadership skills,” Saravanan said. “The level of achievement our members achieved this year is proof of how quickly you can grow with these self-paced, step-by-step programs.”
Sommer is one of 18 people in District 54, in which Plainfield is located, to earn three or more awards in the 2012-13 program year. A member of Toastmasters International since 2009, she is the Bridge Builders Toastmasters immediate past president, the current vice president of membership, and serves as an area governor.
Founder of the Bridge Builders Toastmasters club, Poirier has earned his Distinguished Toastmaster designation, the highest level of achievement within Toastmasters International. His long history of active involvement in Toastmasters International includes a two-year term on the International Board of Directors. The Competent Communicator award that Poirier received on August 6 is his eleventh such award.
Husted has been a member of Toastmasters International since 2009. He currently serves as Bridge Builders Toastmasters’ vice president of education.
