Plainfield UMC to Host Inaugural Carillon Concert

Residents are invited to celebrate the completion of the Plainfield United Methodist Church carillon during a free concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, in downtown Plainfield.

The carillon is one of fewer than 200 in all of North America, and was completed just before Easter — more than 100 years after the first 10 bells were installed.

International carillonneur from St. Joseph's Oratory in Montreal, Quebec, Andrée-Anne Doane, is concluding her tour of Chicago in Plainfield after playing the carillons in Naperville, the University of Chicago and the Chicago Botanic Garden, according to the church. Doane has arranged several musical pieces for Plainfield's carillon from Bach to Stephen Foster.

Chicago Street will be closed between Illinois and Des Plaines streets for concert seating. Bubbles, sidewalk chalk and more will be available for kids.

A second carillon show is scheduled for July 24.
