Plainfield's Collins Ties for the Win at Mayor's Cup

Village President Mike Collins tied with Mayor Ray Soliman of Crest Hill at the May 23 event.

Plainfield Mayor Mike Collins hit the links for a good cause on May 23, facing off against other local leaders — and came out on top.

Collins joined Crest Hill Mayor Ray Soliman in a tie for first place at the first-ever Mayor's Cup, held at Bolingbrook Golf Club to raise money for the Plainfield Rotary Club.

Competitors included mayors John Noak of Romeoville, Rick Chapman of Shorewood, Jim Daley of Homer Glen and Richard Kopczick of Morris.

Collins and Soliman will not only share bragging rights — they'll also share the traveling mayor's cup trophy, which will be hosted at Soliman's Crest Hill office for the first half of the year before heading to Plainfield Village Hall, according to a press release from the Rotary Club.

All proceeds from the event will help boost the philanthropic efforts of the Plainfield Rotary, which has raised more than $160,000 for college scholarships for local public school students, according to the club. Rotary member Heather Heavens said the fundraising tally for the May 23 event has not yet been finalized.

The Plainfield Rotary Club sponsors a Hope House in Jalisco, Mexico, a refuge for homeless boys in need of guidance and support. Other efforts include a coat drive for U.S. veterans, volunteering at community events and working with local youth through high school Interact clubs.

Plainfield Rotary President Bill Caton expressed gratitude to the participating mayors in the inaugural Mayor's Cup. "The 2013 Mayor’s Cup was a spectacular event for our community.  We are thankful for the local mayors that participated in the outing and for our sponsors who have made this event possible," he said in a press release.

The Plainfield Rotary also extended a thank-you to Gold Sponsors Adventist Plainfield Medical Campus, Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, and Edward Jones Investments - Tim Stetenfeld.
