Plan for Traffic, Road Closing During Plainfield Patriotic Picnic

What you should know before you head out to the July 3 celebration.

The Plainfield Police Department is reminding residents that the Plainfield Park District Patriotic Picnic & Fireworks is from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Plainfield Central High School, 24120 W. Fort Beggs Dr.

The festivities will take place in the south parking lot at the high school, ending with a fireworks show at dusk.

As a result of the event, police anticipate that roadways in and around PCHS, especially Fort Beggs Drive, James Street and River Road, will be heavily congested.

Fort Beggs will be closed from 8:30 p.m. until about half an hour after the completion of the fireworks show, police said.

Beginning early Thursday morning, the south parking lot off Fort Beggs Drive across from PCHS will be closed to all vehicles except those participating n the patriotic picnic. Renwick Community Park will also be closed the entire day to allow for the safe set-up of the fireworks show.

Event parking is available at PCHS.

Plainfield police are reminding motorists to anticipate longer than normal delays in traffic movement, and also to be aware of the increase in pedestrian traffic in and around PCHS and along Route 59.
