Repaving on 135th Causing Traffic Pain on 127th Street

The roadwork has detoured traffic to 127th, and adding as much as 15 minutes to some people's morning and evening commutes.

Morning commuters in northern Plainfield may need to leave a few extra minutes early.

Or just avoid 127th Street on the east side between Route 59 and Naperville-Plainfield Road.

You can blame construction on 135th Street for causing the problems. Repaving between where the new fire station is being built and the DuPage River bridge this week is detouring traffic to 127th.

That means double the traffic flow, which is causing time-eating traffic clogs. Some commuters are reporting lines of westbound drivers in the morning and eastbound at evening rush hour stretching more than a half-mile. That can cost you 10 to 15 minutes.

If you’re coming from or heading north, you can beat the backup by jumping off at 119th or 111th streets.
