Get into the Halloween spirit...if you dare!
It's that time of year when zombies, monsters, ghosts and other ghoulish creatures are on the prowl, waiting to scare the pants off you. Below is a list of some of the haunted houses and other attractions in our local Patch communities.
Bolingbrook
WHAT: Ditka's Dome transforms into 13 rooms built to hold the souls of 13 of history’s most demented people. Now evil has a home and you're not welcome. The Mansion and Asylum 13 features lasers, fog machines, strobe lights, air blasters, projectors and sounds. Tickets: General admission - $20

WHAT: ABYSS Haunts is located in the old barn, built in 1834, at Dollinger's Farm. The barn and 19th century cemetery across the street has had unexplained paranormal happenings for decades — so much so that a national ghost-hunting show will feature ABYSS in October. Now, an ancient darkness, so vile and horrifying, has crawled up from the depths, and infested the old structure. Tickets are $17 per victim, $13 group (10+) tickets.

Lemont
Fright Night at the Old Stone Church
WHAT: Lemont Historical Society volunteers will dress up and tell ghost stories from the village to guests, who can visit a haunted coffin from the 1860s, as well as share their own scary tales.

Naperville
Naper Settlement: All Hallows Eve - Village of Fear
WHAT: Naper Settlement turns to the dark side and transforms into a haunted village. During All Hallows Eve, the village will be taken over by a diabolical menagerie of spirits, vampires, werewolves, witches and otherworldly creatures of the night. Keep an eye out for some of the 19th century's most wicked characters, including Lizzie Borden, Count Dracula, Sweeney Todd and others who roam the grounds or take up residence in the historic houses and businesses. Tickets are $15. This event is Rated PG-Creepy. Not recommended for children under 8 or those easily scared.

WHAT: Located on the grounds of , at 12,000 square feet, the Massacre Haunted House features an indoor waiting line for more than 200 people. Voted in the top 10 for the Midwest's scariest haunted house, it includes 35 rooms of pure terror, with more than 40 terrifying live actors, dozens of animatronics, frightening mazes, and so much more. Tickets are $20 for The Massacre, $23 for both The Massacre and Fear Factory 3D (includes 3D glasses). Recommended for adults and teens, but younger kids may come if parents choose to bring them.
WHEN: Through Halloween The Massacre will be open from 7 to 11 p.m. Sundays and Thursday; and from 7 p.m. to midnight on Fridays, Saturdays and Halloween. The Massacre often stays open later to accommodate patrons on busy nights, but the box office will never close earlier than posted times.

Oswego
WHAT: Family-friendly Halloween fun, The Jefferson Graveyard Show features life-size, Disney-quality animatronics. Seven animatronics ghouls come to life to tell and to sing a chilling 10-minute Halloween story set in an eerie graveyard, which includes sound, music, lighting effects, and smoke.
WHEN: Oct 13-16, 20-23, 27-31. Hours are 3 to 7 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays; 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays; 1 to 7 p.m. Sundays and 3 to 7 p.m. on Halloween.

Plainfield
WHAT: Souls of the Forsaken started out as a small yard "haunt" in 2005 and has expanded to include a full seven-room haunted house, complete with secret passages, zombies, body bags and crematorium.
WHEN: Now through Halloween. 7 to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays; 6 to 9 on Halloween night.

WHAT: A lost village has been discovered below the Plainfield Police Department. Construction crews have discovered a hidden passageway to a downtown where its cursed inhabitants live underground. The fundraiser is presented by Plainfield Schools Foundation for Excellence, Plainfield Police DARE program and Plainfield Fire Department. All proceeds benefit the students and staff of Plainfield School District 202. Cost is $10; $5 for family-friendly version.

WHAT: Hawthorne Hill Woods will be transformed into a thrill of scary scenes, complete with ghosts, ghouls, and all sorts of creatures that slither and groan. Hayrides leaving from the Woodridge Community Center. Tickets $5/afternoons and $7/evenings. The Saturday afternoon session will be more suitable for children 9 and younger and the faint of heart (parental discretion).

The following Haunted Houses are close to our Patch communities and worth the drive.
WHAT: Voted the Chicago area’s top haunted house attraction for the past eight years, the Statesville Haunted Prison promises that its warden, the Demon of Darkness and his Zombies, will take control of you quickly like everything else inside the ancient walls of pure evil. Regular tickets are available for purchase online and on-site at the Statesville Haunted Prison ticket window for $30. No one 10 or younger will be allowed on the property, and persons 15 and younger MUST be accompanied by a paid adult.

WHAT: Explore if you dare the basement of the Walker Laundry Company, site of a dreadful explosion. Work your way through sewer lines and tunnels, hoping to escape the tortured souls who make the basement their home. Tickets are $18.

WHAT: With dozens of animatronics and more than 40 actors roaming through nearly two dozen themed rooms in 14,000 square feet of space, this wheelchair-accesible haunted house is not to be missed. Dream Reapers aims to frighten with all of the senses, incorporating scents based on the theme of the room to heighten the horror.
