Storm Blows Family Photos into Plainfield

Did the storm bring photos or other potentially important items your way? Here's what to do with them.

Sunday's severe weather brought wind and rain to Plainfield — but spared the village from the more serious storms and tornadoes seen in other parts of Illinois.

The high winds also brought with them documents and photos from towns hit hard by the storms.

On Plainfield Patch's Facebook page, reader Kimberly Weimer shared a photo that blew into her yard on Sunday. Dirty and tattered from the storm, the image shows a couple posing together.

"This is a photo that fell from the sky and into our yard during the storm along with other debris," Weimer wrote. "The family's name was on the back along with an address. We searched the address and it came from Belleville, IL!"

Another Plainfield resident found what appeared to be an important family photo, according to Chicago NowThe homeowner, named Maureen, said her husband was in the driveway of the family's home in the Wesmere subdivision near Route 59 and Caton Farm Road when a wedding photo of a young couple fell from the sky.

Thanks to the Internet and social media, the couple in the photo was later found. Though they'd lost their home, the couple and their three children were safe, according to Chicago Now.

If the storm blew any documents or photos into your yard and you're not sure how to find the owners, here's some good news:

The Grundy Chamber of Commerce is serving as a central location for storm victims to look for items they may have lost. Anyone who finds items that may have come from the storm can drop them off during business hours Monday through Friday at the chamber office at 909 Liberty Street in Morris.
