Taste of Greece to Return to Joliet

New to the event is the "Run Like a Greek" 5K.

The 2014 Taste of Greece festival is set for July 11, 12 and 13 at St. Sava picnic grounds, 3457 Black Road near the Joliet Public Library.

The fest is hosted by All Saints Greek Orthodox Church.

While plenty of Greek food, games, dancing and raffles are back on the menu, the event will also include the new "Run Like a Greek" 5K race, set for 9:30 a.m. Sunday, July 13.

Registration is under way now (see attached registration form or email georgjean@gmail.com) and costs $30 per person. Race-day registration is at 8:30 a.m. the day of the event. Register by July 1 to be ensured a T-shirt.

This year's Taste of Greece will offer roasted chicken, souvlaki, gyros, roast lamb, Greek appetizers including salad and spanakopita and desserts (baklava, loukoumades and more), as well as wine and beer.

The event will also offer kids games, a DJ playing Greek music and dancing, and a raffle with a $1,500 first price. A professional Greek dance troupe will also be there performing traditional Greek dances.

Taste of Greece hours are 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, July 11; 4 to 10 p.m. Saturday, July 12; and noon to 10 p.m. Sunday, July 13.
