A local business wants to get Plainfield moving.

HealthSource of Plainfield has launched a in the hopes of providing motivation for residents who want to get healthy or start a new hobby.

The club’s second meetup is scheduled for 8 a.m. Saturday, June 23, at Turtle Lake Access, located on Lockport Street one mile east of Route 59.

“We decided to start a walking club to motivate people to get out there and do something,” said Nikki Nicklin, an exercise therapist at HealthSource. The club is also an way to help people connect with others who are interested in walking, but don’t want to do it alone.

“It really is just about getting the community together and doing something,” Nicklin said. “We have some running clubs, but we don’t have any walking clubs.”

In its first outing on June 16, the club attracted 10 participants.

Nicklin stressed that you don’t have to be a HealthSource client to participate in the free events.

She said she would like to see the club branch out to offer more meetups throughout the week.

“As it grows, we’re going to have more dates,” Nicklin said. “We want to try to do a mid-week stress reliever, a ‘Wednesday Walkout.’”

Participants will receive a free journal to log their miles. Once they reach 25 miles, they’ll get a GPS pedometer to help track their progress.

“We start with our stretches and we do a walk around the lake,” Nicklin said.
