Welcome for Plainfield Marine Set for Saturday

Staging is at 12 p.m. April 6 at the Plainfield Moose Lodge.

Area residents are invited to help welcome home a Plainfield veteran on Saturday, April 6, at the Plainfield Moose Lodge, 16310 S. Lincoln Highway.

Operation Welcome You Home will host a flag line and motorcade to welcome Marine Kevin McSorley, a 2009 graduate of Plainfield Central High School.

McSorley followed in the footsteps of his grandfather, Bob McSorley Sr., a Marine who served during the Korean war.

The Plainfield veteran attended Crystal Lawns Elementary School and Timber Ridge Middle School before graduating from Plainfield Central.

According to a press release from Operation Welcome You Home, McSorley attended basic training at the Marine Corps Recruiting Depot, San Diego in June 2011 before completing his training in motor transport at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He was stationed at Twentynine Palms, California, and was deployed to Afghanistan in April 2012.

McSorley is the son of Bob and Sue McSorley and brother to Ryan. His grandparents are Leo and Sally Dilger and the late Bob (Sr.) and Kay McSorley. He is welcomed home by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Staging is at noon Saturday, April 6, at the Moose Lodge, with a briefing set for 12:15 p.m. A motorcade will leave at 12:30 p.m. to head to McSorley's home to pick him up, then back to the Moose Lodge for a party.
