What's Open, Closed on Columbus Day in Plainfield
Schools are closed, but the library is open; find out what else is happening Columbus Day in Plainfield.
While kids will have the day off, some municipal workers won't this Columbus Day, which is Monday, Oct. 14.
Closings in Plainfield include District 202 schools, St. Mary Immaculate Parish School and the Plainfield Township offices. Don't expect mail delivery either, since the post office, 14855 S. Van Dyke Rd., is closed.
Most banks are closed on Columbus Day, but some remain open, so check with yours if you plan to do some in-person banking.
What's open?
- The Plainfield Public Library is letting readers know they are open for business Monday.
- Village Hall, 24401 W. Lockport St., is open (a special village board meeting/Committee of the Whole meeting is also scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday).
- Plainfield Park District facilities are open, although a planned middle school bonfire has been cancelled due to low enrollment.
- According to the Waste Management website, the company is open for business Monday, which means garbage/recycling pickup should be unaffected by the holiday.
Most retail stores, restaurants, gyms, and supermarkets are open, but may be observing special weekend or holiday hours. Call ahead if you want to be sure before you head out.
