A winning lottery ticket good for $10,250,000 was sold over the weekend at United Liquor Mart, 1532 Route 59, according to Joliet Mayor Tom Giarrante.

The mayor took to Facebook early Monday to talk about the unclaimed prize, asking residents if they had the winning ticket. "I don't," Giarrante said.

The winning numbers, announced Saturday, are as follows: 1, 7, 27, 35, 45, 47, Extra Shot: 22.

The retailer will get 1 percent of the prize amount for selling the winning ticket — provided the winner comes forward.

It states that the retailer will get 1% of the winning amount, providing the winner comes forward. I thought the retailer gets the amount no matter what. Have the rules changed?

Well that will add some extra fun to the holiday weekend! Congrats to the winner.

How wonderful for the winner!

Patch, your statement is incorrect. The retailer gets the 1% even if the winner does not come forward, although I don't understand why a winner wouldn't claim his winnings.

People forget to check their lottery tickets all the time, or lose the tickets. If you go on the lottery website you can check an entire list of cash prizes that have never been claimed. I believe you have a year to claim.
