Wounded Warrior 5K is Coming: Volunteers, Kids T-Shirt Design Needed

The annual fundraiser returns May 24.

The third annual Wounded Warrior 5K event won approval from the Plainfield village board last week — and now the organizers are asking for the community's help.

The event, which benefits local servicemen and women, is slated for the Saturday before Memorial Day, May 24, at Settlers' Park in downtown Plainfield.

Organizers at Operation Welcome You Home are asking kids to help design the children's T-shirt kids will wear this year.

Kids ages 5 to 10 are invited to draw their idea of a military hero on the official entry form (click here to find the form). Entries can be dropped off between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at Nevin's Brewing Company, 12337 S. Route 59 in Plainfield. Organizers will choose the winning design, which will be featured on all kids T-shirts.
