If there's any doubt that the Christmas season will be upon us by week's end, check out downtown Lockport Street sometime between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. Saturday for a dose of holiday cheer.
MainStreet Plainfield's annual Candlelight Christmas starts with Breakfast with Santa and ends with a crèche lighting, holiday carols and horse-drawn carriage rides.
The Knights of Columbus will be selling roasted chestnuts and kids can pick up coloring contest entries, with the prize being a "treat" from Cathy's Sweet Creations.

8 a.m. to noon – Breakfast with Santa at Larry's Diner; price is $4.35 for children 10 and young. Call 815-436-3055 for reservations.

9 a.m. – Free gift with any purchase from Aimee's Cottage (while supplies last).
10 a.m. to 8 p.m. – Holiday Happenings at A Floral Affair and Material Things/Plainfield.
Noon to 3 p.m. – Visit with Santa at Finnegan's Irish Pub.
Noon to 8 p.m. – Gingerbread House Decorating at Cathy's Sweet Creations; price is $17 per house. Call 815-577-9660 for reservations.
1 to 7 p.m. – Make an ornament at Pixie Pizazzi; price is $6.
2 to 3 p.m. – Complimentary consultations and free 2-ounce gift at Top Reviews Salon.
3 to 8 p.m. – Free pictures with Santa at Gourmet Junction, sponsored by the Plainfield Kiwanis and Gourmet Junction.
4 to 8 p.m. – Horse-drawn carriage rides (pick-up is at the corner of Lockport and DesPlaines streets; price is $1, sponsored by Advanced Counseling & Assessment Services, First Community Bank and Boozle B's.
4 to 9 p.m. – Free gift with any purchase from Sweet Pea and Have to Have.
6 to 9 p.m. – Wine tasting at Wine & Cheese by TCC.
7 to 8 p.m. – Lamplight Singers, a Victorian Christmas Caroling Quartet; sponsored by The Learning Experience.
7 p.m. – 60th annual Plainfield Lions Club Creche Lighting at Plymouth Congregational Church. The event begins with a program of Christmas songs and scripture reading inside before the group gathers outside to sing Silent Night and light the crèche.
