District 202 Music Students to Perform at All-State Conference in Peoria

Eleven District 202 high school music students will participate in the 63rd annual Illinois Music Educators Association (IEMA) All-State Conference to be held in Peoria January 26-29.

Students will perform with the best high school musicians in the state at the music festival at the Civic Center, 201 S.W. Jefferson Street in Peoria, IL 61602.

These District 202 student musicians will perform at this year’s, “Music is a 21st Century Skill,” themed IMEA All-State festival:
 
Plainfield East High School
J.A. Banez, junior, Tenor I- All-State Senior Chorus
Eve Bowman, senior, Alto II- All-State Honors Chorus
 
Plainfield High School-Central Campus
Brandon Sheppard, junior, Clarinet- All-State Band
Mark Talsma, senior, Bass- All-State Chorus
 
Plainfield North High School
Jordan Caulk, junior, Soprano I- All-State Honors Chorus
Hadeel Hejja, senior, Alto II- All-State Honors Chorus
Taylor Katz, senior, Soprano I- All-State Honors Chorus
Veronica Lamlech, junior, Alto I- All-State Chorus

Brittany Mytnik, senior, Soprano II- All-State Honors Chorus
 
The students auditioned to perform at the festival during district-level performances in October.  Each student auditioned for band, orchestra or chorus.  
  
At the festival, the students will perform in one of two choruses; one of two bands; and in one of two orchestras.  Students in each of the performance sections will audition for placement within their groups and then rehearse all day on Thursday and Friday at the festival.
 
Then, they will perform in the All-State concerts on Saturday, January 29, 2011, at the Peoria Civic Center Arena.  Each group will be directed by a prominent guest conductor from the professional and university ranks.  The guest conductors are often world-famous.

 
The PEHS Concert Choir has been selected to perform one of the concerts at the All-State conference at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, January 29, 2011.
