Holni-Highland Polish Dance Troupe to perform at Lewis University Oct. 20

As part of its Arts & Ideas program, Lewis University will host the Holni-Highland Polish Dance Troupe at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 20 in the Philip Lynch Theatre located on the University's main campus in Romeoville. The troupe will begin singing in the lobby 20 minutes prior to the beginning of the show.

The group represents the folk culture and costumes of southern Poland. The dancers demonstrate the folklore of the people who reside in the high Tatra Mountains, which are equivalent to the Rocky Mountains. The group performs with its own live music, which is played acoustically on violins and cello bass. The dancing is intricate and requires a great deal of stamina.

The women wear colorful silk costumes with flower embroidery while the men have white woolen pants with embroidery near their pockets. A pastoral tradition found in most mountain folk cultures of Europe, plenty of singing in harmonies will be done by the troupe.
