Lewis University’s Philip Lynch Theatre presents David Rimmer’s ''New York''

Lewis University's Philip Lynch Theatre (PLT) presents David Rimmer's play, "New York," a heartfelt exploration of 9/11 survivor guilt. "New York" is a series of 16 scenes with a diverse array of characters affected by 9/11. Performances are October 1-3 and October 7-10.

David Rimmer, the Pulitzer Prize finalist author of "Album," wrote "New York" as a benefit for Disaster Psychiatry Outreach, a volunteer organization for mental health service providers committed to alleviate suffering through their psychiatric expertise. Depicting the reactions of 15 individuals to the events of September 11, the characters all speak to a central psychiatrist. Each character deals with a form of survivor guilt. "New York" was written in the heat of the days when 9/11 was on everyone's mind. Rimmer has said, "I've learned from audiences over the years that the further we get away from that day in history, the more universal the play becomes."

"New York" features the following Lewis student performers: Kate Sisto of Orland Park, Annalyn Hostert and Mike Sansone both of Joliet, Chris Selefski of Plainfield, Delia Goldrick of Oak Lawn, Mike Friar of Tinley Park, Nicollette Augustyn of Carol Stream, Mariah Frykholm of Lockport, and Laura Wisniewski of Chicago. Guest director Greg Kolack of Chicago directs production with artistic collaboration from Professor and Technical Director Harold McCay of Joliet (scenic design), and Joliet Catholic Academy English teacher Celeste Mackey of Joliet (costume design). Lewis students on the production staff include: Christopher Hueg of Roseville, MN (costume design), Kevin Kaucher of Chicago (light design), Dave Early of Minooka (stage manager), James Pankiewicz of Posen (assistant stage manager and props), Jon Erickson of Chicago (light board operator), and Melissa Chicola of Lockport (sound design). Evening performances begin at 8 P.M. Sunday matinees begin at 2:30 P.M. In addition to the Saturday evening performances, there will be a 4 P.M. Saturday matinee performance on October 9.
