Metropolitan Youth Symphony Performs Sunday at JJC

The Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO) will perform at 4 p.m. May 20 at Joliet Junior College's Fine Arts Auditorium.

Admission is $7 at the door.

Dr. Lawrence Sisk, professor of music at Lewis University, will conduct the orchestra in a program that includes selections from Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, Musorgsky’s The Great Gate of Kiev and Gliere’s Russian Sailor’s Dance.

This concert will feature the winner of the annual MYSO concerto competition, pianist, Thomas Ridgway. Thomas will perform Beethoven’s Concerto No. 3 in C minor. He is a homeschooled student from Shorewood.

Founded in 1959 the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra has resided in Will County since 1991.  Players in MYSO come from Lewis University and Joliet Junior College, and from area high schools and middle schools.

MYSO rehearses every Wednesday evening that school is in session from 6-8:30pm at Lewis University.  Auditions for next season will be held in late August. Check the Web site at www.mysomusic.org for details and to arrange an audition.
