Plainfield's Melissa McCarthy Reported to Star in Spy Franchise

The actress is reportedly in negotiations to star in a third film from "Bridesmaids" and "The Heat" director Paul Feig.

After two successful collaborations — first on 2011's "Bridesmaids" and more recently on this summer's box-office hit "The Heat" — Plainfield native Melissa McCarthy may be getting set to work with director Paul Feig for the third time, according to The Wrap.

McCarthy is reportedly in talks to star in Feig's female spy comedy "Susan Cooper."

According to The Wrap, McCarthy has been offered the role, and negotiations are subject to scheduling issues with her hit CBS show, "Mike & Molly."

Feig wrote the script for the spy comedy, which is reportedly inspired by 2006's James Bond movie "Casino Royale."

McCarthy and co-star Sandra Bullock recently proved that female-driven comedies can be mainstream successes. Their buddy cop flick "The Heat" has grossed $133 million since opening last month.
