Weather Channel Strikes Back at DirecTV

The channel was pulled from the lineup after contract negotiations went awry.

If you're a DirecTV subscriber, say goodbye to the Weather Channel.

The channel disappeared from the satellite TV provider's lineup around midnight Tuesday following a heated contract dispute. DirecTV has apparently replaced Weather Channel with the 24-hour WeatherNation channel.

Now, Weather Channel is pushing back, urging fans to put pressure on DirecTV.

"DirecTV doesn't know the true cost of dropping the Weather Channel," the station said in an email to customers. "But you do."

Weather Channel is urging DirecTV customers to find a new service provider. The channel has also launched a website, www.KeepTheWeatherChannel.com

"The Weather Channel isn't just another TV network. It's a must-have resource that keeps families safe," a headline on the channel's website said.

On its "Keep the Weather Channel" site, the channel proclaims that negotiations are over, and asks fans to take a pledge to switch from DirecTV.

DirecTV subscribers: How much will the loss of the Weather Channel affect you? Do you plan to switch?
