Plainfield's Bolin Powers JCA In Girls Golf

Plainfield's Carmella Bolin helps the JCA girls golf team set a new school record in girls golf.

The Joliet Catholic Academy girls golf team gets right back on the course today in the East Suburban Catholic Conference against Fenwick and Marist.

That leaves JCA little time to savor what happened Tuesday.

The Angels established a new school record for lowest team score with a 151, defeating Joliet Township (171), Beecher (173) and host Kankakee (231) at the Shamrock.

Juniors Claire O’Connor (Joliet) and Maddy Troha (Joliet) earned medalist honors, each shooting a 37. Junior Carmella Bolin (Plainfield) contributed a 38 and Lexi McClintock (Joliet) checked in with a 39.

Not counting in the team score but coming in with solid results for the Angels: Laurel Stofan (Joliet) shot a 43 and Stephanie Tillman (Plainfield) added a 53. JCA improved its overall record to 8-5.

“It was great to see the girls make strides toward lowering their scores,” JCA coach Kathy Major said. “And it comes at the right time of the season with conference in two weeks and regionals soon after.”

BOYS GOLF: Facing undefeated defending conference champion Carmel in a triangular, JCA (10-4) swept play by shooting a 155 in a triangular at the Joliet Country Club. Carmel shot a 157, St. Patrick a 191.

Jimmy Chignoli (Joliet) led the Hilltoppers with a 36 and Cole Parris (Joliet) recorded a 38. Chignoli’s even-par score was the lowest at the Joliet Country Club since JCA started golfing there.

GIRLS TENNIS: Taylor Madlener (Plainfield) won at third singles as the varsity dropped a 7-1 decision to Lockport.

The frosh-soph team came in second place at the Bolingbrook Tournament. The doubles teams of Liz Minarich-Brittany Cunnea and Alex Legg-Claire Schmig placed second. Katie Payne-Megan Paolucci also placed second. The doubles team of Mary Bui and Taylor Testin took third. Testin is from Plainfield, Cunnea and Paolucci from Shorewood, Legg from Channahon and Payne from Naperville.

FOOTBALL: The JCA sophomore football team defeated Peoria Richwoods 40-7 Friday night. Austin Butts (Aurora) and Nick Pastore (Joliet) each scored two touchdowns. The JCA freshmen team posted its third straight win, this time with a 36-0 shutout.
