Dominick's at Route 59 and Black to Become a Mariano's

No buyer has been announced for the Dominick's on Essington Road; it is slated to close by year's end.

The Dominick's store at Route 59 and Black Road is being purchased for conversion into a Mariano's grocery store, store owners announced Monday.

Mariano's parent company, Roundy's of Milwaukee, struck a deal with Dominick's to buy 11 of its Chicago-area stores for $36 million, the Chicago Tribune reported. The deal is be finalized by mid-December, and the store conversions to take one to two months, the story said.

Dominick's announced in October that it would be closing all stores that they are unable to sell in the Chicago market. Thus far, no sale announcement has been made about the store at 2318 Essington Road in Joliet.

Jewel is purchasing four of the Dominick's stores and has expressed interest in acquiring others but no other purchases have been announced.

Mariano's has 13 stores in the Chicago market and is in the process of building five more, the Tribune story said.
