Gas Prices Up a Dime, Just in Time for the Holiday

The Plainfield average is running about $3.82 to $3.89 as of Thursday night, but there's a bargain price of $3.63 at the Jewel Express in Shorewood.

You knew last week's gas prices were too good to last through the Fourth of July weekend. Since then, they have climbed by about a dime in what can only be described as the American free enterprise way of celebrating a holiday.

Last week, Plainfield residents were paying from $3.69 to $3.79 for a gallon of regular, according to www.illinoisgasprices.com.

This week, you can still find it at $3.69 at one place -- the Mobil station at Route 59 and Route 126 as of 10:45 p.m. Thursday -- but most stations in town were charging $3.82 to $3.89.

That makes us higher than the Illinois per gallon average of $3.70 and the national average of $3.57.

If you're looking for a bargain, head over to Jewel Express at the corner of Brook Forest (Route 59) and Jefferson Street in Shorewood, where the price was $3.63 a gallon, www.illinoisgasprices.com reports. But don't bother going toward Naperville. Their prices are about the same as Plainfield's.
