Get Your Stocking Filled at Holiday Open House

Downtown event Saturday will also feature breakfast and lunch with Santa, ornament making, free refreshments and more.

Kiddies can dine with Santa, adults can sip wine, tea or eggnog, and everyone can trick or treat stocking-style during Saturday’s Holiday Open House in downtown Plainfield.

The Stocking Stuffer Stroll, breakfast and lunch with Santa, a coloring contest and more will invoke the holiday spirit during ’s 14th annual event with festivities from early morning into the evening.

The Stocking Stuffer Stroll, a highlight of the day, is a Christmas take on trick or treating that replaced the Cookie Walk in 2009. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., 20 participating businesses will dole out goodies to fill your stocking. Only 200 stockings will be sold. Many were still available for purchase at downtown locations as of press time, MainStreet Plainfield Executive Director Susan Erickson said.

Stockings are available for $5 at the MainStreet Plainfield office, 24044 W. Lockport St., as well as at A Floral Affair, , , , , , , , , , , , , and .

These businesses will have goodies to stuff the stockings on Saturday as will Bellissima Photography, , , and .

Also on Saturday, Larry’s Diner will host Breakfast with Santa from 8 a.m. to noon. The cost is $4.35 for kids 10 and under. Call 815-436-3055 for a reservation.

Bin 48 will host Lunch with Santa from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lunch specials start at $7.95. Call 815-733-5212 for a reservation.

Other Holiday Open House festivities include:

  • Candy cane reindeer craft activity (free while supplies last) at Sweet Pea Children’s Boutique from 10 a.m. to noon;
  • Kids’ Ankle Jingle Bells giveaway (while supplies last) at Forget Me Not from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.;
  • Gingerbread house decorating ($24.95) at Cathy’s Sweet Creations from noon to 6 p.m. (reservations required by calling 815-577-9660);
  • Harp music by Lauren McCombe at Have to Have from 2 to 3:30 p.m.;
  • Children’s ornament craft ($7) at Pixie Pizazzi from 2 to 4 p.m.;
  • Free teas and holiday entertaining sampling at Gourmet Junction from 3 to 6 p.m.;
  • Half-price appetizers and $5 eggnog martinis at HopScotch and Vine from 5 p.m. to close;
  • Wine tasting at Wine & Cheese by TCC from 6 to 9 p.m.

A coloring contest sponsored by will conclude Saturday with the winners receiving treats from Cathy’s Sweet Creations. Coloring pages can be picked up at MainStreet Plainfield and participating businesses, and dropped off at MainStreet Plainfield, which has a mail slot.
