Harris Bank Celebrated All Things "59" This Weekend

These Route 59 trivia questions were part of ’s celebration of the end of road work that had blockaded its branch on Lockport Street for literally years.

On Friday and Saturday, the bank celebrated all things 59. It handed out Harris Bank cupholders, flying discs and bottled water to the first 59 customers. On Saturday, some bankers came to work decked out in 1950s-era outfits.
Posters evoked the cost of living in 1959, when a gallon of gas cost a quarter, you could buy a new car for $2,200 and, at $12,000, a new house would set you back less than the sticker price on most cars today.

As for the answers to the trivia questions: There were 1,052 days between Sept. 10, 2008, when the project, started and July 29, 2011, the day we celebrated its finish. It cost $89 million.
Lance Buell won the contest for the cost of project and was awarded a $25 gift bond. Chris Coyne came closest to guessing the number of days of construction and received a Hubert the Lion cookie jar.
