It’s All in the Family at Plainfield Car Dealership

After generations in the car business, Webb Chevy recently purchased Bill Jacobs Plainfield.

If you’re from Chicagoland, you know the jingle: “The whole town's talking about the Webb Boys, the Webb Boys, the Webb Boys.”

In Plainfield, the Webb girls are also carrying on the family legacy. On Sept. 16, Webb Chevy opened in the former Bill Jacobs dealership on Route 30. The family has its roots in Joliet and Plainfield, and recently made the decision to purchase the Plainfield dealership. 

“It’s a growing market out here,” said dealer principal Kelly Webb, who joins dad Mike Webb and siblings Jackie and Brian Webb in the family business.

The Webbs have been in the car business for nearly a half-century. Webb Ford has been in Highland, Indiana, for almost 50 years, and the family has operated Webb Chevrolet in Oak Lawn since 2000.

The Plainfield dealership offers new and used vehicles. General Manager Brad Wise said Webb’s large inventory sets it apart from other area dealerships.

Like the Webb family, Wise has a long history in the car business. A former Bill Jacobs employee, he’s been selling cars for 25 years.

“I’m still at home,” joked Wise, who also lives in Plainfield. “This group has a lot of Joliet-area roots.”

Used car manager Rich Peterson is also a former Bill Jacobs employee, Wise said. “If you walk in here, there’s a good chance one of us knows you.”

Jackie Webb, Internet director and sales manager, said a family member will be at the dealership every day. She said staff at Webb Chevy plan to have an active role in the Plainfield community and are looking for ways to get involved.

          Had a "bad buy" with Bill Jacobs 2 years ago and even with the truck coming from Bill Jacobs the new management team is really taking care of us and making our situation right! A huge thank you to Rick for really working hard on the sales end and Karl for his excellent time consuming job with our truck in the service department! We look forward to the new change!

          Bill Jacobs was awful. Went there to test drive some Suburbans and the first one would not even start. The second one started up, but when we were driving down 30, I noticed it was very sluggish. Looked down at the gas gauge, and ran out of gas! Had to coast into the BP gas station over on 30 and 55 and had no control of the truck. Not good. Had to pay with my money since the salesmen I was with had no cash or cc. They did reimburse me when we got back, but the GM didn't even appologize.
