Luigi's Gets Regional Recognition in Top 10 Competition

The Plainfield restaurant is named one of the best in the Chicago area by Citysearch.

A Plainfield pizza parlor has landed on a top 10 list of the best pizza places in the Chicago metro area.

at 16200 S. Lincoln Highway came in seventh on the Best of Citysearch list of Chicago region pizza. Pizza fans themselves create the list by voting for their favorites on online.

“It was voted in by customers as one of the best of all the pizza in the city and all the suburbs,’ said Mike Maretick, who owns Luigi’s with partner Patricia Lamberta.

Customers have been flocking in since the listing came out a few weeks ago, he said.

“Once we get them in the door, they usually come back,” Maretick said.

Why are Luigi’s lovers so loyal that they took the time to log on to Citysearch to vote?

“We make everything from scratch with fresh ingredients the old-fashioned way – not on a conveyor belt like pizza chains,” Maretick said.

The Luigi’s restaurant east of Plainfield has only been in business a couple of years, but Maretick’s family has been running pizza restaurants in suburbs of Matteson and Glenwood for decades. Maretick has been making pizzas since he was 12.

“It’s the same pizza we’ve been making for 40 years,” he said.

The customers who went online to put Luigi’s on the local list for legendary pizza rave about the food and the ambiance.

“Not sure what it is, maybe the cheese they use, but the pizza has so much flavor ... love it!. Cute little place, friendly staff. Good specials,” wrote a JakeM in a review on the Citysearch site.

The Plainfield Patch restaurant reviewer called Luigi's Pizza & Pasta “a stand-out in this area,” claiming the linguine in a white lemon sauce reminded her of fare she tasted in Rome and praising its lasagna, crafted from the recipe of restaurant's namesake and the owner's grandfather, Luigi Maretick.

Best of Citysearch bills itself as “an epic battle for greatness ... all based on your votes.” The contest runs nationwide throughout the year and includes Best Restaurants, Best Spas and Beauty, Best Hotels and Best Nightlife. Most campaigns run annually while others may be swapped out for something shiny and new. Voters get to cast only one ballot.

Citysearch is a leading national online directory of neighborhood restaurants, bars, shopping, beauty and professional services in cities nationwide.
