It seems only fitting that Joliet's new NASCAR Car Wash/Express Lube Center should hold its grand opening Thursday, the same day that things start getting under way for race weekend at Chicagoland Speedway.

  • The new business at 1801 S. Route 59, near Theodore Street, will celebrate the big day by offering free washes and vacuuming, a live remote radio broadcast by WQQC-FM (98.3) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and a noon ribbon-cutting with the Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce.

Free car washes will continue through Sunday, and on Saturday, two Miss Sprint Cup representatives -- Brooke Werner and Kim Coon -- will be on hand for photographs.

Thursday is also the opening day for Chicagoland Speedway's September race weekend events, with campers starting to arrive at noon Thursday. Practice and qualifying runs are held Friday, followed by the Dollar General 300 on Saturday and the Geico 400 on Sunday.
