New Year's Eve Closure for Cozy Corner, Soon to be the Red Rooster

An e-mail sent to Cozy Corner patrons says the restaurant will serve its last customer today; it will reopen as a new restaurant sometime in January.

It will literally be out with the old and in with the new this New Year's Eve when restaurant closes its doors forever today and reopens sometime in January as the Red Rooster restaurant.

Patrons were notified by e-mail Friday that the family-run restaurant, located at 12337 S. Route 59 since September 2003, would be serving its last customers from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

The new owners were not identified, nor was there any information on the Red Rooster other than it would offer a "new and inviting concept in dining."

It's not know whether the new restaurant has any connection to the Red Rooster restaurant in Glenview or the Red Rooster Wine Bar & Cafe on Halsted Street in Chicago.

The e-mail did stress the new restaurant would honor Cozy Corner gift certificates or gift cards, but it would not recognize any of the restaurant's other previous commitments.

"Since the Cozy Corner will be closing Dec. 31, it must be noted that, when the new restaurant opens in January, there will be no association with The Cozy Corner," the announcement said.

"The new owners will accept gift cards or gift certificates issued by The Cozy Corner. However, any unused vouchers, coupons or discount cards are null and void. Vouchers issued through Eversave, Groupon, Restaurant.com or any other entity, can be returned to that vendor, permitting you to utilize your purchase price, for another  business participating in their program."

Rumors have been circulating for several weeks that the restaurant, which was previously known as Nick's Cozy Corner, might be closing. Last week a manager said she anticipated it might be changing hands and closing for remodeling but would provide no other details.

Joe Ardovitch, whose Ardmin Properties owns the North Plainfield Crossing strip mall in which the restaurant is located, said he, too, had heard rumors that Cozy Corner might be in trouble but said he did not know anything more than that.

The strip mall is the same one in which closed two weeks ago.
