Plainfield Business on Magazine's List of Nation's Fastest Growing Companies

Infutor Data Soluations recently made the magazine's list of 5,000 fastest-growing companies in the United States.

A 10-year-old Plainfield business made the cut on Inc. magazine's list of fastest-growing companies in the U.S.

Founded in 2003, Infutor Data Solutions has grown by 145 percent over the last three years, according to the magazine. Over the same time period, the firm has added 36 jobs — pretty speedy growth, considering that the company currently employs a total of 53 people. In 2012, the firm reported revenue of $18.5 million, compared to $7.5 million in 2009.

The company, 15129 S. Route 59, was ranked No. 2,470 on the list. Infutor spokeswoman Michelle Tilton recently did a Q&A with Patch to discuss the company's growth:

Tell me a little bit about Infutor and what you do.

Infutor was founded in 2003 by the Gary Walter, a veteran in the information industry. Infutor specializes in building products and services  for information companies, law enforcement agencies, non-profit agencies, retailers and automotive marketers.

Why did Infutor choose to locate in Plainfield?

We chose Plainfield because of the expanded downtown, easy expressway access, and close proximity to the employee residences.

According to the Inc. 5000 list, the company has added 36 jobs in three years — considering the size of the staff, that's huge growth, particularly in a still-sluggish economy. How were you able to grow so quickly?

We are incredibly fortunate to experience such growth during a tough economy. The quality of our products and services is what really drove our growth. Many similar companies were selling similar products at discounted rates, but not providing the quality that the industry demanded. During a tough economy, businesses need to justify expenditures more fastidiously and prove [return on investment] on every dollar they spent. Because we are known for our quality and our clients were seeing success using our assets, we were able to acquire more long-term customers. In fact, all of our largest customers are locked in to 1-3 year contracts. As this growth occurred, we were able to add more jobs, which, in retrospect, was rare in the economy of the last few years. Our staff works so hard and it really shows in the growth of the past few years.

Do you have any plans to continue growing or expanding?

We absolutely hope so. Our sales team continues to push into new verticals, and as we grow, we are able to add more staff to fill the demand. We’ve made significant strides in the non-profit and retail space in the past two years, which is where we anticipate our growth to continue.

About the Inc. 5000 list

The Inc. 5000 list of 2013's fastest growing companies includes 261 Illinois businesses employing more than 93,000 people. An eclectic array of industries made the list, from a media company for photographer moms and a suburban restaurant and winery chain to traditional insurance companies and construction firms.

One might think that Chicago-based firms would dominate the list — and 91 of the businesses call the city of broad shoulders home — but more than half are in the suburbs, with 19 in towns far downstate or well outside the metro area. The suburb with the most firms on the Inc. 5000 list is Schaumburg, with 13, followed by Oak Brook with 10 and Naperville with eight.

In the last three years, 22 of the companies experienced a growth rate over 1,000 percent.
