Plainfield Salon Celebrates 10th Anniversary

Zen Salon & Spa will offer specials throughout May.

Kelly Kolodziej and JoAnn Vojslavek had already worked together for more than a decade when they decided to open Zen Salon & Spa in Plainfield, 12337 S. Route 59.

Ten years later, the business — and their partnership — is going strong.

“We’ve been doing hair together for more than 25 years,” said Kolodziej. The two hair stylists met while working at a Naperville salon.

In 2003, they decided to branch out.

“We had such a good clientele, we wanted our own salon,” Kolodziej said. “We decided to just take the plunge, and 10 years later, we’re still here.” Added Vojslavek with a laugh, “I just came up with this this harebrained idea, and we went with it.”

Zen opened in May 2003. “Ten years ago, there was nothing here,” Kolodziej said. “We were the first people to move here." The shopping center is now home to businesses including Nevin's Brewing Company, Frank's Night Out, Twist Yoga Lounge, White Fence Farm, A Thin Line Tattoo and Enterprise Rent-A-Car, to name a few.

A decade ago, Plainfield resident Vojslavek said she saw a need for a salon along Route 59. “There was really no upscale salon here,” she said.

Today, Zen employs eight hair stylists, three nail technicians and an esthetician.

“A lot of our employees have been here for 10 years,” Vojslavek added.

The salon offers haircuts and coloring, nail care, facials and body waxing. In June, Zen will begin offering Aveda facials, Vojslavek said.

The business has been an Aveda salon since November 2012.

To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Zen Salon & Spa will offer discounts and specials throughout May. For upcoming deals, customers can check the Zen website or visit the salon’s Facebook page.

Vojslavek said she attributes the business' success to loyal customers and staff.

"I really want to thank the employees and clients that have supported us," she said.
