Plainfield School of Rock Hosts Open House June 1

Guests can take tours, hear live music and learn more about the new downtown music school.

School of Rock won’t officially be in session until June 11, but the new downtown Plainfield music school is inviting residents to an open house party from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 1.

Owner Jason Fein said prospective students will get to see what , can do for them by hearing live performances from students at the school’s Mokena location.

School of Rock instructors will also offer free trial lessons, and guests can enjoy tours and meet the staff. Refreshments will also be served.

“It’s open for everyone to come by,” Fein said.

Fein’s band, The Run Around, will also host a pre-party and concert starting at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 31, at the House of Blues in Chicago.

Classes at Plainfield’s School of Rock officially begin June 11. The music school offers private instruction for ages 7 to 18, plus a weekly group session and a “little wing” program for ages 3 to 5.

Fein said the school is already planning an expansion. Currently, School of Rock occupies the lower level of the historic Steiner building in downtown Plainfield. By the end of the summer, he said, the school will expand into the second floor as well.

Fein said School of Rock is working to help second-floor tenant The Wandering Dragon Game Shoppe find a new location.

The music school is also planning some summertime offerings, including a series of weeklong camps. The following camps are scheduled:

  • Starting June 17: Beatles camp
  • Starting June 24: Modern pop music camp
  • Starting July 8: Rock 101 for beginners
  • Startng July 15: Led Zeppelin camp
