Plainfield Women Pick Up Oprah's Favorite Thing

Oprah is a big fan of the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle, which seven audience members -- including two from Plainfield -- won last November and received Thursday night.

Gina Svara recalls having a bad day at work last November and deciding she’d log on to the Oprah Winfrey Web site. Little did Svara know that moment of escape was about to change her life.

“I decided at the last minute to try and get tickets for the show, and I had to fill out some information and write a little story about why I was an ultimate fan,” Svara said.

“Seeing Oprah was something that had been on my bucket list forever, so I just had to do this. Two days later, I get an email telling me I’m invited to the show and to bring a friend. The following Tuesday, we were there and then everything changed.”

Svara, 41, of Plainfield, along with her best friend Dana Diorio, 38, were fortunate enough to be guests along with a couple hundred other folks that fateful day in November when Winfrey rolled out her final “Favorite Things” show and showered the audience with thousands of dollars’ worth of gifts, including brand new 2012 Volkswagen Beetles, which were delivered to seven audience members Thursday night at Bill Jacobs Volkswagen in Naperville.
