New Restaurant Offers Fresh Mexican, Margaritas on Route 59

A new Mexican eatery is dishing out something different, according to general manager David Barriball.

Diners at the new Delicia Mexican Grill, 12337 S. Route 59, can expect traditional fare like tacos, burritos and fajitas — but that’s not all.

“It’s sort of a combination of classic Mexican and neo-Latin cuisine,” said Barriball, who has been in the restaurant business for more than 25 years.

The restaurant offers up daily specials and signature fare including bacon-wrapped tequila shrimp, lata de cerveza (beer can) chicken, green chile cheeseburgers and fresh fish dishes, not to mention homemade soups and appetizers.

There’s a children’s menu for fussy young eaters, and although Delicia is a full-service, sit-down restaurant, it also caters to busy workers on their lunch breaks, offering a “Mexican express” menu for fast eats, Barriball said.

 “It’s good for a date, and it’s good for family,” Barriball said.

Barriball said margarita lovers are also in for a treat at Delicia.

“Our margaritas are all made with fresh fruit — no mixes,” he said, plus fresh lime juice and homemade simple syrup. The restaurant serves seven different margaritas, and diners can chose from a menu of 20 premium 100 percent agave tequilas.

“Only the best,” Barriball said, adding that like the margaritas, Delicia’s dishes are always made to order. “Everything is made fresh here.”

Delicia opened Oct. 23 and is the second Plainfield venture for Plainfield's Delight owner Jim Letsos. It occupies the space that was formerly home to the Cozy Corner restaurant and has been completely remodeled, Barriball said.

It is in the shopping center anchored by the future Tommy Nevin's Brewing Company.

Barriball, a Plainfield resident, said the eatery is family run.

 “We’re super happy to be here,” he said. “And it’s exciting that I’m feeding my neighbors here.”

Delicia Mexican Grill is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
