Shoppers Turn Out for MainStreet Plainfield's Candlelight Christmas

Annual event coincided with Small Business Saturday.

Chilly weather didn't deter shoppers on Small Business Saturday, which coincided with MainStreet Plainfield's annual Candlelight Christmas event on Nov. 24.

MainStreet Executive Director Susan Erickson said businesses reported an uptick in traffic during the event, which included activities for kids, horse-drawn carriage rides and specials at downtown shops.

"Ninety-five perscent saw a great business day and at least three of the new businesses said they surpassed their sales of when they first opened," Erickson said.

Chere Bates of Lockport Street Gallery said about twice the number of shoppers stopped into her store this year compared with last year.

"We had a wonderful day and the weather was great," Erickson said.
