Target, Toys R Us Join Thanksgiving Rush: Stores to Open Earlier Than Ever

Forget Black Friday — retailers are opening earlier and earlier to increase holiday profits.

If you work retail, better make that Thanksgiving dinner extra early.

Two more big-box giants are joining the battle for holiday profits: Target and Toys R Us have announced that they will open even earlier on Thanksgiving evening, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Target said it will open its doors at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 28, joining Macy's, J.C. Penney and Kohl's. According to the retailer, most stores will be open until 11 p.m. Friday. The time change marks its earliest Thanksgiving Day opening ever, although the company said it "works closely with its team members to understand scheduling preferences," according to the Trib.

Toys R Us, which in the past has opened at 9 p.m. on turkey day, will open its doors even earlier at 5 p.m. Nov. 28, staying open until 10 p.m. Nov. 29.

As more retailers look to cash in, some shoppers have said enough is enough: A "Say No to Shopping on Thanksgiving" movement has gained a following on Facebook.
