Tony's Finer Foods Filling Empty Strack Location

The Itasca-based food store chain is expected to be in its new Route 59 store by year's end.

By the end of the year, the empty Strack & Van Til store on Route 59 will be reopened as Tony's Finer Foods.

The Itasca-based grocery store chain, with eight stores mostly in the Chicago area, plans to open a full-service supermarket at the 2300 Route 59 Joliet location, according to a story in the Joliet Herald News.

Tony’s can compete in the area, Director of Human Resources Jim Marnos told the paper, because each store is tailored to the area in which it's located and features foods produced by local vendors.

“The fresh produce is delivered daily," Marnos said in the article. "The owner still goes out to the market every week and hand-selects produce to bring into the stores.”

Do they have a large organic/natural section? (Better than Dominics?)

For anyone who has never shoped at Tony's, well now they will have the PLEASURE to do so. There deli and produce departments are fresh, clean, and fantastic. They have a large selection of ethnic foods and organic too. As far as competition goes, well people will have to shop there and SEE the difference; great prices for BETTER food, you can't beat that. Walmart, Jewel, Dominicks..... BEWARE, because if people give Tony's a chance they'll never go back.

Good luck to Tonys, wasn't impressed at all on my first visit. Lots of produce options but the quality wasn't there. Bought some green leaf lettuce and its starting to brown already seriously its a day and a half old. Good luck i'll be shopping elsewhere though.
