Village: New Plainfield Italian Restaurant Could Open in July

Owner wants to open by July 4 in the former Irish pub location.

Updated at 4:15 p.m. June 18:

On Tuesday, village staff said they still couldn't officially disclose the name of the new restaurant set to occupy the former Irish pub on Lockport Street — but a sign posted in the window announced the impending arrival of Capri Restaurant.

"Help wanted — inquire within" signs were also posted in the windows Tuesday, advertising job openings for bus boys, dishwashers and waitstaff.

Officials remained mum on the name of the Italian eatery scheduled to occupy a former Plainfield Irish pub, but said the new business could open next month.

"They want to be open by July 4," Village Planner Michael Garrigan said of the restaurant, which is part of a Chicago-area chain.

"I don't know if that's doable now," since the business has yet to apply for a liquor license, "but that's what they expressed to me," Garrigan said. He said the franchisee has asked the village not to disclose the name of the eatery — at least not yet.

The liquor license request would have to go before the village board by its next meeting on July 1 in order for the restaurant to open by 4th of July.

The restaurant will be located at 24102 W. Lockport St., which was previously occupied by Mickey O'Neill's Irish Pub and, before that, Finnegan's.

No one appeared to be at the currently vacant building on Monday afternoon, but "help wanted" signs were displayed in the window.
