White Fence Farm Makes List of Best Illinois Restaurants NOT in Chicago

In addition to the main restaurant, the eatery has carryout locations in Joliet, Plainfield.

You don't have to make the trek into the big city for a great meal, at least according to website Thrillist.com, which rated a local restaurant among its "12 Best Illinois Restaurants NOT in Chicago."

"Believe it or not, there are restaurants outside of Chicago that're good, too," wrote Sean Cooley, who covers Chicago's restaurant and bar scene for Thrillist.

The roundup of the best eats outside the city included Romeoville mainstay White Fence Farm, 1376 Joliet Road. Known for its fried chicken — which is actually pressure cooked before being briefly flash fried — the family run restaurant has been around since the 1920s.

White Fence Farm, which has carryout locations in Joliet, Plainfield, Riverside and Downers Grove, also rates a 3 out of 5 stars among diners on Yelp!.

"Their killer fried chicken and corn fritters are worth the trek to the family-run farmland. Just trust us on this one," Thrillist wrote. In 2011, Patch food critic Emily Semplinski agreed: A Trip to White Fence Farm Always Worth the Drive

White Fence Farm was the only Will County restaurant to make the list; other picks included Bien Trucha in Geneva, Zenwich in Elmhurst and Burt's Place in Morton Grove. Click to see Thrillist's full list.
