Who Says You Can't Put Bacon and Eggs on a Pizza?

Aurelio's is filling the breakfast brunch void left when Gruben's Uptown Tap ended theirs in September.

The question of a Sunday brunch buffet in Plainfield has been asked and answered.

Aurelio's Pizza is stepping up to the plate to fill in the breakfast buffet void I wrote about last September.  There are lots of good places around town to get a sit-down, served- up Sunday meal. But, as I commented in "About Town," there wasn't any place left for open grazing.

Well, now there is. And it comes from a pizza joint – not the first place you would look for breakfast. It turns out, there are a lot of good things you can do with a pizza oven.

Until now, I steered clear of breakfast pizza. I wasn't so sure eggs and bacon really belonged on a pizza pie. But I am a total convert. Having tried the scrambled egg, green pepper and black olive topping on a crisp crust, I can heartily recommend it.

Besides the breakfast pizza, Aurelio's Sunday buffet, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., features a modest, but adequate, salad selection, bacon, scrambled eggs, sausage and its signature homemade meat balls with pasta. The $8.95 tab includes orange juice.

You may remember I wrote about the collection of heirlooms at Aurelio's, at 14421 S. U.S. 30, a couple of weeks ago. Funny no one mentioned the brunch buffet. That was just before the family of antique buffs launched it Nov. 1.

The new breakfast buffet must be some kind of a secret because there is no sign of it on the restaurant marquee or in advertising.

Hey, wait a minute. Maybe it's my fault. You'll recall that I hold my husband partly to blame for eating Gruben's Uptown Tap right out of the brunch business last winter.

Perhaps Aurelio's was hoping we wouldn't find out...
