Company Will Present Final Plainfield 'Vision for Division' at March 11 Meeting

Residents can view a final draft of the proposal, including 3-D drawings, at the Committee of the Whole meeting.

Since last summer, village officials have been struggling with the question of Route 59's future: Should it remain a business transition district (BTD), or should it become a higher-traffic commercial corridor?

Now, Plainfield residents will get one last chance to share their input on the issue.

Civic ArtWorks, the Chicago company hired by the village to conduct the "Vision for Division" study, will present its final draft of a proposed development plan for the area from Union Street to Main Street at the March 11 Committee of the Whole meeting at Village Hall.

Once a residential area, the corridor is now a busy roadway that gets about 40,000 vehicles each day, according to village planner Michael Garrigan.

In a BTD, homeowners are encouraged to convert their houses to low-impact uses like offices, rather than tearing them down to make way for businesses.

Residents were asked to leave their feedback on the project website, www.visiondivision.civicartworks.com, along with voting for their favorite concepts. More than 100 comments were left on the site, and 1,000 votes were cast, according to the village.

Now that voting is over, Civic ArtWorks has hired architect and illustrator David Carrico to come up with 3-D drawings of the final concept.

During the March 11 meeting, Zach Borders of Civic ArtWorks will review the community’s input and feedback from the process and present the final vision for the corridor along with a three-dimensional concept by Carico.

Garrigan said the drawings will be displayed at Village Hall.
