Heat Wave Engulfs Plainfield

Patch checks out how this week's high temperatures stack up to past warm weather trends.

Plainfield and the surrounding Chicago area is in the midst of a weeklong heat wave that could see heat index rates soar above the 100-degree mark.

The has issued an excessive heat warning  thorugh Friday morning, with a combination of hot temperatures and high humidity possibly creating a "dangerous situation."

But scorching heat is nothing new for the Chicagoland area in the month of July, according to the National Weather Service. If the actual temperature reaches 95, as predicted, the heat index, or a measure of how hot it actually feels, could be as high as 118 degrees Wednesday.
