Plainfield Library Joins Coat Drive

Coats are being collected now through Dec. 27 for MorningStar Mission in Joliet.

The Plainfield Public Library is one of the latest organizations to join efforts to keep residents warm this winter.

Earlier this month, Patch joined up with Joliet musician Marty Mercer, who launched a food and coat drive for MorningStar Mission in Joliet.

Since then, several businesses and organizations have also gotten involved, andthere have been two deliveries to MorningStar Mission. The first was the items collected at Cantigny Post, 826 Horseshoe Dr. On Dec. 10, Mercer moved 16 cases of food and 5 bags of coats and blankets to the Joliet non-profit.

Then, only two days later, Mercer moved an additional 14 cases of food and a bag of jackets and blankets that had been collected at St. Joseph's Academy, 51 W. Jackson.

And the opportunities to give also keep growing. Since we first announced our partnership Dec. 4, Plainfield Public Library, 15025 S. Illinois St., has joined to collect coats only. Then, the owners of TownePlace Suites, 1515 Riverboat Center Dr.; Hampton Inn at 3555 Mall Loop Dr. and Hampton Inn at 1521 Riverboat Center Dr., jumped on board to collect food only.

The collection for food and coats will continue through Dec. 27. Here is a full list of locations where you can make donations.
