Plainfield's Median Age is Among Youngest in Illinois, Census Shows

And, interestingly, even as the population has tripled in the last 10 years -- from 13,038 in 2000 to 39,581 in 2010 -- the median age has hovered at around the same number. Ten years ago, it was 33.2; last year, it came in at 33.8, statistics show.

Given the huge increase in residents in Will County, it should come as no surprise that many towns in our area have median ages -- ranging mostly in the 31 to 38 age bracket. Young families moving west to buy new houses at good prices make up many of the newcomers.
