Ruptured Gas Line Closes Rt. 59 Near Lockport Street

Two houses and Plainfield Academy have been evacuated; Police Chief John Konopek says commuters should find an alternate route home because it will take several hours to fix.

A gas line rupture has closed Route 59 near Lockport Street, and repairs are likely to take several hours, Plainfield Police Chief Konopek said.

The incident happened shortly after 3 p.m., resulting in the evacuation of two hours and Plainfield Academy.

Konopek said detours around the intersection have been set up but commuters would be best served to avoid the area completely if possible. Work to fix the line is expected to take several hours, he said.
