Spooky Spending: Plainfield Grownups Shell Out for Halloween Costumes

How do nearby towns stack up when it comes to the adult costume market?

The adult Halloween costume market is hot in Plainfield — at least compared with other nearby towns.

Last year, American adults spent $512.1 million on costumes, according to Crain's Chicago Business, shelling out $100 million more than they spent on costumes for kids. The publication took at look which Chicago areas had the highest spending on adult costumes.

Homes in Plainfield's 60586 ZIP code came out near the top, spending $116,568. Households in both the 60585 and 60544 ZIP codes spent more than $61,000.

A section of Naperville located in Will County — the 60564 ZIP code, to be exact — was the area's biggest spender, with $159,988.

How some other towns did:

  • Joliet (60435): $86,948
  • Shorewood: $51,339
  • Romeoville: $70,416
  • Channahon: $24,405
