Batinick Defeats Fellow Republicans in the 97th District

A Plainfield businessman will take on Democrat Dennis Grosskopf in November in the 97th District.

Mark Batinick defeated Shorewood Mayor Rick Chapman and Oswego teacher Amanda Mancke in the Republican primary, with the majority of the vote in Will and Kendall counties.

With an "Elect the Bat" campaign slogan, Batinick captured more than 50 percent of the vote to run for a seat currently held by Tom Cross (R-Oswego).

Cross, meanwhile, defeated DuPage County Auditor Bob Grogan and will face off against Democrat Michael Frerichs in the state treasurer race next fall.

The Will County State's Attorney's office is reportedly investigating a negative mailer bashing Batinick; the mailer had Chapman's photo and address on it, but the Shorewood mayor denied sending it, saying he pledged to avoid negative campaigning.
